A Blushing Mocktail for Sober Summer
I spent a week in Nashville during my Sober Summer challenge. Perhaps the toughest week of the entire 101 days, I tasted many a mocktail and N/A beer. Inspired by The Carry On from The Hampton Social in Nashville, I bring you an original Wandering Hearth mocktail recipe.
Just the Recipe | 2 Mocktails
Ingredients
Club Soda, chilled
1/2 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
2 oz Pear Thyme Simple Syrup
Sugar
Water
1 Pear
Fresh Thyme (5-8 sprigs)
3 oz Raspberry Simple Syrup
Sugar
Water
1 Pint Raspberries
Lemon Slices and Raspberries, for garnish
Steps
Make the simple syrups in advance:
Raspberry Simple Syrup
In a sauce pan, mix 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Add a washed pint of raspberries. Bring to a boil, then turn to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Drain through a sieve - pressing the fruit gently with the back of a spoon to squeeze out the juice. Chill.
Pear Thyme Simple Syrup
In a sauce pan, mix 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Dice a ripe pear and add to the mixture. Bring to a boil, then turn to low and add 5-8 sprigs of thyme. Simmer for 20 minutes, then drain through a sieve - pressing the fruit gently with the back of a spoon to squeeze out the juice. Chill.
Chill two martini or coupe glasses.
To a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the simple syrups and lemon juice.
Shake for 5-10 seconds.
Pour into the glass and top with cold club soda.
Garnish with a strip of lemon peel or slice of lemon and a raspberry.
Cheers!
Kitchen Acumen Tips:
Store simple syrup in an airtight glass jar, label and date. Will keep for at least 30 days in the fridge.
The Carry On
Make Blackberry Simple Syrup and use instead of raspberry.
Top with Ginger Beer instead of club soda.
The Cocktail Version of the Nashville:
The Hubs enjoyed this combo mixed with 2 oz of gin. Vodka or tequila would also work.
