The Andes Alexander

The Andes Alexander

Who needs a pillow mint?

Vintage cocktails are making a comeback. The Hubs mixed this bright mint chocolate Alexander up after doing some research on the very popular Alexander cocktail of the 1920s.

Topped with dark chocolate shavings and (optionally) a dollop of whipped cream.

Just the Recipe | 2 Cocktails

Ingredients

3 oz good Gin (i.e. Bombay Sapphire or Bluecoat)

1 oz Crème de Cacao

2 oz Crème de Menthe

1 oz Half & Half

Dark Chocolate Shavings

Whipped Cream (optional)

Steps

  • Chill two martini or coupe glasses.

  • To a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the Gin, Crème de Cacao, Crème de Menthe, and Half & Half.

  • Shake for 5-10 seconds.

  • Pour into the glass, top with shaved chocolate, whipped cream and enjoy!

Cheers!

Kitchen Acumen Tips:

  • You can use dark or clear Crème de Cacao. Dark Crème de Cacao makes more of a “pea soup” colored drink (ew!). I vote for clear Crème de Cacao in this recipe to get the bright, festive color you see above!

  • Aldi has amazing German dark chocolate bars from Moser Roth. The Dark Chocolate Chili bar is so, so good on this cocktail. Use a Microplaner to shave the chocolate.

  • Want to lean more about this cocktail that used to be relatively ubiquitous? Check out the Difford’s Guide article on the Alexander. I especially love the recipe newspaper clippings from the early 1900s. How fun is that?

  • Find a friend or two and enjoy together :)
