The Dutch Baby

The Dutch Baby

The only pancake recipe I’m ever making again!

Heartier than crepes and fancier than pancakes, the Dutch Baby is perfect for Christmas morning breakfast. It’s delicate, decadent, and quite easy to make.

The Dutch Baby is a great choice for breakfast on special occasions, like Thanksgiving or Christmas morning. It comes together quickly and you can lazily sip coffee while it bakes. This Almond Dutch Baby recipe from PSB Food is my favorite. It’s tasty, simple and to the point.

Kitchen Acumen Tips

  • Serve with: butter, lemon, and extra powdered sugar

  • To eat, cut strips or sections. Spread on butter, squeeze on some lemon juice and sprinkle with sugar. Roll and cut into bite size pieces. Or roll and eat with your fingers.

  • I’ve made with my 12” cast iron skillet and my shallow 3 quart enamel braiser. It rose more evenly in the braiser but tastes the same either way.

  • This is plenty for the two of us. If you’re serving a crowd, you’ll need to make one Dutch Baby at a time, unless you have more than one oven. The timing works well to mix up a new batch while one bakes. Bake up a tray of bacon or cook sausage to serve as a side and encourage everyone to enjoy a leisurely breakfast.
