5 Recipes to Make Your Kitchen Smell Like Fall

5 Recipes to Make Your Kitchen Smell Like Fall

Apples, Cinnamon, and Cloves, oh My!

Give me some fresh cut apples and a crock of mulled wine any day! It is no coincidence this blog came to be in the Fall because it is my absolute favorite time of the year to spend time in the kitchen. And if you peruse the Recipe Index you will quickly see there are more than a few recipes that highlight Fall’s flavors! You can get the full list of recipes tagged for Fall here, and below I’m sharing a short list that will instantly make your kitchen smell like cinnamon and spice!

Perfectly Seasonal Recipes

  1. Apple Spice Coffee Cake. Start with this Coffee Cake recipe and make it an apple spice version with these adjustments:

Peel and dice a firm apple (such as granny smith, honeycrisp, or gala). Add the apple chunks and 1/2 teaspoon of pie spice mix to the dry ingredients, tossing well to coat in flour (so the apples don’t sink to the bottom of the cake!). Add a dash of pie spice to the crumb topping as well if you wish! Bake as directed in the original recipe.

  2. Pumpkin Bread. Looking for a Starbucks Pumpkin Bread knock-off recipe? This is it. And if you like your pumpkin without the add-ins, skip them! This also tastes suspiciously like the pumpkin bread Trader Joes mix. So warm and spicy and melt-in-your-mouth good.

  3. Molasses Sugar Cookies. This recipe is featured in the Hearthside “Best of Cookies” collection. Simple molasses cookies that make the whole house smell spicy and sweet. This batter freezes and travels well. Bonus, these are dairy free!

  4. Cranberry & Apple Baked Oatmeal. We eat this healthy breakfast dish all through the Fall and Winter. Should you tire of this recipe, check out a few other options: 5 Breakfast Recipes to Satisfy your Pumpkin Craving. My favorite is the Pumpkin Pecan Baked French Toast, a recipe so good I’ll get out of bed early to make it. Try making it with a Pumpkin Brioche bread. So tasty!

  5. Cranberry Applesauce. A special family recipe, this tangy applesauce can be a perfect replacement for cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving. It makes for a fun, blush pink applesauce. Click here if you’re looking for a basic recipe for applesauce.

Fall is for baking! I recently tried my hand at Kate’s Sticky Toffee Apple Cake from the Great British Bake Off from Season 4. What I learned: soak the dried apples for a lot longer - this recipe was a bit dry the first time. The next time around, I may use finely diced fresh apples instead.

Cranberry and Apple Baked Oatmeal.

Pumpkin Bread with Cranberries and Walnuts. Skip the add-ins for a Trade Joe’s Pumpkin Bread mix knock-off made from scratch.
