Crisp Apple Sangria

A Delicious, Crisp White Sangria You Can Make With Apples or Pears

00100dPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20200920125827335_COVER.jpg

Just the Recipe | 1 Pitcher of Sangria

Ingredients

1 Bottle White Wine, Unoaked (see tips)
1/2 Cup Apple Pie “Moonshine”
1/2 Cup Apple Cider
2 Cinnamon Sticks  ⠀
1 Firm Apple, cored and sliced
1 Cup Grapes
1 Pear, cored and sliced
1 Bottle Sparkling Apple Juice or Club Soda

Steps

  • Add apple slices, pear slices, grapes, and cinnamon sticks to the bottom of a pitcher.

  • Cover with the apple pie moonshine and apple cider.

  • Add the bottle of white wine. Stir.

  • Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 8 hours to let the flavors meld.

  • Pour into wine glasses and top with sparkling apple juice or club soda

Kitchen Acumen Tips:

  • When it’s just the two of us, as it tends to be these days as the COVID stay-at-home mandates continue, I divide the recipe in half and make it in a quart mason jar. The Sangria keeps well for about 2 days. I’ll make on a Friday night for us to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Use a semi-dry or dry white wine that is un-oaked. Pinot Grigio, un-oaked Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris or Viognier can all work quite nicely. I also love the 14 Hands White Blend (and their Red Blend for red sangrias) for these.

  • Taste the sangria before choosing between sparkling apple juice or club soda. The apple juice will deepen the apple and cinnamon flavor while the club soda will cut through it. If you want more booze, top with a subtle Prosecco.

  • You can truly use any combination of fruit. Sometimes I just use apples! For more flavor ideas, check out The Only Sangria Recipe You’ll Ever Need for a winning formula to create Sangria for any season.

  • Substitutions: If you can’t find the Apple Pie “Moonshine,” try Brandy and add another cinnamon stick.

  • Sa-NA-gria (Non-Alcoholic) Version: Mix apple and/or pear slices with apple cider and cinnamon sticks. Allow to soak together for several hours. Serve by filling a glass 1/2 way full with the cider and fruit and top the other half off with sparkling apple juice for some festive fizz.

Cheers!
